In the dental arena there are such things as malocclusions that can affect your bite. In fact, malocclusions, commonly referred to as “bad bites”, are the misalignment and accompanying poor fit of your teeth and jaws. Malocclusions can be caused by a plethora of factors, many of which are out of your control. For all the various types and styles of common bad bites that may be distressing your smile, see the list below:
Malocclusions have a variety of causes and are often out of your control. Today we would like to take a look at the various kinds of misaligned bites you might possibly experience.
#1 – Open bites in your smile are what happens when you have disconnected upper and lower incisors when you bite down.
#2 – Crossbites in your smile arise when your lower jawbone protrudes out farther than your upper jawbone.
#3- Misplaces midlines in your smile occur when the center of your upper incisors (the front teeth) fail to correctly align with the center of the lower incisors.
#4- Overbites, sometimes called upper protrusions, appear when your upper incisors protrude out farther than the lower incisors.
#5- Rotation malocclusions are malocclusions that occur when the teeth rotate out of their proper alignment.
#6- Transposition malocclusions in your smile can happen when your teeth erupt above the gum line in the wrong place.
#7- Spacing malocclusions can happen if you have issues with overcrowding of the teeth and large gaps between teeth.
#8- Underbites, sometimes known as “bulldog” teeth, arise when the lower incisors protrude out further than your upper incisors.
